Sex Gangs Pick Up Refugee Children
- Lack of official help encourages prostitution, says report

BRITAIN'S clampdown on refugees and asylum seekers has forced children into the hands of prostitution rackets, according to a report by the Save the Children Fund.

"[Refugee] children are being forced to travel on the sex traffic routes," said Save the Children Consultant David Wright. The report says that nearly 3,500 unaccompanied children arrived in Britain last year, most of them headed for London. Critics say their plight is being ignored as the government seeks to portray itself as tough on immigration.

Wright pointed out that in the 1970s, government initiatives to resettle Vietnamese 'boat' children were successful in helping young immigrants avoid slipping into the hands of sex gangs.

"We want to see European governments do more to protect these very vulnerable children," said the report's author, Wendy Ayotte.
