Online Shopping Hits New Heights
- LondonNet well ahead of market trend

INTERNET shopping in the UK has doubled over the past year, according to a new survey.

LondonNet's own figures bear the survey's findings out, albeit we have seen sales quadruple over the same period. "People are generally very satisfied with the whole experience of online shopping," said Richard Somerville of pollsters NOP, whose survey reports that security fears have almost been eliminated with 90 per cent of online shoppers happy to give their credit card numbers compared to just 42 two years ago.

3.3 million people are predicted to shop via the net in 2000, compared to 1.5 million last year. Spending is likely to hit UKP10 billion this year, up from UKP3.23 billion last, but only half of the estimated bonanza of UKP20 billion predicted for 2001.
