Emmy For Eddie
- Izzard triumphs at TV's Oscars

LONDON COMIC Eddie Izzard clocked up two Emmys yesterday at the big LA awards ceremony.

Izzard, known for his outlandish dress style and quirky humour, won the gongs for his stand-up show Eddie Izzard: Dress To Kill. He beat off competition from David Letterman's Late Show and Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

Another triumph for the Brits came when actress Vanessa Redgrave scooped an award for outstanding supporting role in a TV movie, for her performance in If These Walls Could Talk 2. The film, which also stars Sharon Stone and Chloe Sevigny, follows lesbian experiences over three decades.

Other British successes included the BBC's animated series Walking With Dinosaurs which picked up three Emmys, two of which were for special effects.

As well as America, Izzard's bizarre comedy has also conquered France. The Croydon-born comedian crossed the Channel and broke the language barrier last year by performing a series of well-received shows in French.
