The Queen is a Gooner
- Italy sojourning HM gives seal of approval to Arsenal Football Club

THE QUEEN'S sporting interests were previously thought to revolve exclusively around horses. But on her trip to Italy, Her Majesty revealed a hitherto unknown passion for football and Arsenal FC in particular.

The Gooners take on Lazio of Rome in the Champions League tonight and the Queen is clearly up for it. "Football brings together thousands of supporters to each others' countries as it will here in the stadium in Rome," she said, as part of a speech celebrating Anglo-Italian ties.

Meanwhile, Her Majesty has run into some mirth from onlookers in Italy for her diva-styler demands. Aides have told chefs not to use garlic and spaghetti in meals cooked for the Queen and she is rumoured to have asked for an extra hotel room in which to keep her shoes. Football boots included, we can only presume, ma'am.
