Hodges Slams American Carter
- Director doesn't get US remake of British gangland classic

VETERAN British director Mike Hodges has taken a swipe at the Hollywood remake of his most famous work, Get Carter.

Hodges, the man behind the 1971 original that saw Michael Caine in one of his greatest roles as the devious London gangster, is none too pleased about the American version of the classic gangland caper.

"Unfortunately I couldn't stop them making it," said a disgruntled Hodges. "I don't know why they decided to remake it. For the amount of money spent on it they could have made plenty of original films."

The remake, which is set in modern-day Seattle and stars Sylvester Stallone as Jack Carter, has already taken a bashing from US critics who were banned from preview screenings.
