Docklands Gets World Trade Centre
- Prestige development due for 2002 opening

LONDON is to get a new World Trade Centre as part of the continuing redevelopment of Docklands.

Five huge office buildings are planned to be built as part of the project by 2002, on the site of the Docklands IRA bomb blast, with more to come in subsequent years.

The site is close to Canary Wharf, London's tallest building by some distance. The new World Trade Centre will not be as high but what it will lack in feet in inches, it is set to gain in variety as 2,000 new homes, cafes and large scale leisure developments are also planned for the site, which will be known as the Millennium Quarter.

Planners estimate that up to 20,000 jobs will be created by the project.
