Craig Captures Mobo Awards
- Hat trick for the UK R&B sensation

BRITISH R&B star Craig David was all smiles yesterday as he scooped three gongs at the prestigious Mobo Awards, held at Alexandra Palace last night.

As predicted, 19 year-old David won three of the awards he was nominated for - Best Newcomer, Best R&B act and Best Single for the chart-topping Fill Me In. On collecting his trophy, the singer told the audience: "This makes me proud to be British."

The teenager, who also performed live at the event, holds the record of being the youngest male solo artist to go straight in at number one. Reflecting on his success he said afterwards: "It's amazing. For me to come from no-where to win all these awards is great."

David, up for a total of six awards, lost out to singer Jamelia for best video, while DJ Luck and MC Neat won the Best UK Garage Act. Other winners included Gabrielle for Best UK Album award with Rise, which spawned a number one single. Bad-boy rapper Eminem picked up the prize for Best Hip-Hop Act.
