Jim Royle Joins the Mob
- Telly's favourite superslob to star in gangster flick

ROYLE FAMILY star Ricky Tomlinson has swapped his couch for a criminal life in a new film about 1920's gang boss Scarface.

Tomlinson, who plays superslob Jim Royle in the hit sitcom The Royle Family, will star alongside fellow Royle star Ralf Little in the film - titled Al's Lads - about notorious gangster Al Capone.

But it won't be filmed in Chicago. Luckily for the lazy two, film-makers have plumped for Liverpool instead of the Windy City in order to cut costs. In the movie, Ralf plays one of three young Scouse waiters who want to start a new life in the States. On the ship they meet Billy (Ricky) who acts as a father figure. They jump ship in America and make off with a load of stolen gin.

Producer Nick Kingston of Alchemy Pictures said: "We've got some fabulous British actors and decided to film in Merseyside. The guys come from Liverpool anyway and it's been easy re-creating parts of Chicago and New York, especially on the waterfront."
