Bar Owners: Curfew Will Ruin West End
- Court ruling sought on late-night clampdown

A BATTLE for the heart and soul of the West End looms as bars and clubs plan to take Westminster Council to court over its plans to impose a 1am curfew on new venues.

"The outcome of the policy will inevitably be a reduction in standards across the West End," said Nick Tamblyn, boss of the Chorion Group which includes Bar Madrid and Tiger Tiger. "If there is no new inward investment, London's West End will miss out on new and innovative concepts currently on trial across the world."

Westminster Council point to already existing 86 bars and clubs which are allowed to open well beyond 1am and say the West End needs no more late-night venues. The council is thought to have the backing of the police and transport services for its views but Chorion is nevertheless determined to take the issue to judicial review.
