Long Weekend for Golden Jubilee
- Queen's half-century to be marked by double bank holiday

A FOUR-DAY holiday for the Queen's loyal subjects is among the proposals for the celebrations for Her Majesty's Golden Jubilee being planned by Government officials.

It is believed two bank holidays will be created immediately after the first weekend in June 2002 so that public celebrations of Queen Elizabeth II's 50 year reign can be mounted in some style. Other plans mooted are the opening of the grounds of some of the Royal residences to the public for carnival-type parties.

In the past, some Royal watchers have speculated that the Queen will relinquish her throne in favour of Prince Charles come the Golden Jubilee.
