|Sure Hit For Shaw
- Fiona handed child-slayer lead in Medea
FIONA SHAW has accepted the starring role in Medea, transferring 30th January 2001 to the Queen's theatre following a successful run at Dublin's Abbey Theatre.
Her West End credits landed her the demanding part, last played by Diana Rigg in 1994. Director Deborah Warner believes Shaw's performances of tortured Richard II and feisty Miss Jean Brodie in recent National Theatre productions have primed her for the lead.
Medea, Euripedes' hot-blooded Greek tragedy about a woman who murders her children, is the kind of drama a theatre pro like Shaw can sink her teeth into.
