|Dando Suspect: I Didn't Do It
- Queen fan Bulsara protests innocence
JILL DANDO murder suspect Barry Bulsara is likely to be kept in custody over the weekend as police seek more answers to their questions, despite protesting his innocence.
Bulsara, who lives just 700 metres from the house of the former TV star, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of Dando's murder. Under British law, police must release a suspect within 36 hours of arrest if no charges have been brought, which in Bulsara's case would mean by 6.30 Friday evening. But in murder cases, officers are allowed to ask magistrates for an extra 72 hours.
In conversations with neighbours over the past few weeks, following police raids on his flat, Bulsara said:. "They are after me, but I didn't do it."
Bulsara is said to be an unemployed loner holding a fanatical obsession with rock group Queen. The murder suspect's surname is the same as the real surname of Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury.
Police have so far remained silent on the grounds for their suspicions, but some believe Bulsara's internet files may hold clues, as well as the unusually bored gun that was used to kill Dando.
