Taylor Made for Andrews Victory
- Julie beats Liz in Dame race

JULIE ANDREWS will today beat off the formidable challenge of Liz Taylor to become the first of the actress duo to be made a Dame by the Queen.

Buckingham Palace is the venue for the battle of the Hollywood goddesses, but all bets are now off as to which dame will be made a Dame first. That's because royal officials have killed the fun of the chase by ruling that the gongs will be handed out in alphabetical order, giving Andrews an easy victory over the her late-lettered rival.

Curiously, at least to those who remember Andrews stinkers such as S.O.B., it is Julie who is being honoured for her acting achievements, while Liz's award is for her services to AIDS charities.

But if coded messages suggest that royalty favours Andrews, others disagree. Next week, an exhibition opens at the National Gallery devoted to pictures of Taylor and the British Film Institute is to host a dinner in her honour
