Met Chief: Royal Family at Risk
- Stevens worried over anarchist threat at Tate Modern

ANARCHISTS have laid plans to target the Queen when she opens the new Tate Modern art gallery tomorrow, according to London's police chief.

"They are anarchists and they want the royal family dismantled," said Metropolitan Police Chief Sir John Stevens who apparently moonlights as a political theorist. "I think one of the royal family could be at risk."

Stevens believes the same groups who smashed up a McDonald's restaurant and defaced a statue of Britain's war time leader Winston Churchill in the Mayday disturbances are ready to attack Her Majesty on the south bank but vowed the tiny band of trouble-makers "would not win."

The anarchists are not the only ones who doubt the legitimacy of the Queen's appearance at the Tate Modern. Many artists have reacted with horror at HM's leading role, believing her presence will dilute the anti-establishment nature of much of the art work to be found inside the former power station.
