Public Net Kiosk Unveiled
- Free e-mail via street booths

LONDON'S first public e-mail kiosk opened today (Friday) outside the Design Centre in Islington.

Unveiling the booth, Culture Minister Chris Smith said it would be the first of hundreds to be located in popular sites across the capital. The kiosks will offer free e-mail as well as selected services such as travel information and weather reports, all paid for by on-screen advertising.

LondonNet can claim to have a small hand in bringing the new fangled machines to London, as we advocated the public e-mail and internet scheme some two years ago after discovering a similar venture in Amsterdam
