Millennium Bridge Open
- St Paul's and Tate Modern linked by new river crossing

THE MILLENNIUM BRIDGE is finally open after two months of delays.

Joining the approach to St Paul's Cathedral on the north bank to the acclaimed new art gallery Tate Modern on the south of the river, the footbridge is expected to become a popular crossing point. Today only a select few dignatories and other invited guests will be able to make the short trip across the Thames, ahead of its opening to the public on Saturday. The elegant suspension bridge was was due to open in April but engineering problems meant its unveiling had to be postponed.

The new bridge is part of a general renaissance of the south bank which includes modernisation of fellow pedestrian crossing Hungerford Bridge, the London Eye big wheel, the Tate Modern, the IMAX cinema and future plans for a revamp of the entire south bank centre arts complex.
