- 'Smorgasbord' approach for upcoming adventure park
THE DOME looks set for a roller coaster of a ride next year as its prospective owners, a Japanese Bank, plan to turn it into an amusement park.
Finance house Nomura International, who take over the attraction next January, intend to splash out UKP400 million transforming the Dome into a theme park Among the incentives to attract visitors will be an interactive Yellow Submarine ride based on the Beatles film.
"We want to provide something for everyone," said Guy Hands, head of Nomura's UK division. "It's like a smorgasbord - when you have a good smorgasbord you choose what you eat, you don't mix it together and make baby food."
The UKP105 million sale will dish out UKP53 million to the New Millennium Experience Company who currently run the Dome. But it is unlikely to pay off loans to the lottery-funded Millennium Commission who have injected UKP110 million into the cash-stricken attraction since it opened early this year.
