Community Cries Foul Over Paddington Tower
- Locals fear invasion of the rich

RESIDENTS and local businesses are none too happy about Lord Rogers's 43 storey Paddington Eye skyscraper that looks set to loom over West London.

Many shops and houses are likely to be demolished to make room for the complex, and there are fears that it will upset the local community and serve merely as a tourist magnet and a bastion for the rich.

"We don't want a skyscraper full of people who use the hotel and leisure club during the week, because of the commuting aspect, and then disappear at the weekend," said Andrew Whitely, a Labour councillor on Westminster City Council. "There must be enough affordable housing and jobs brought to the area for local people."
