Bouncers Needed for Wobbly Bridge
- UKP1 charge mooted to fund security

THE MILLENNIUM BRIDGE could be in for a surprise re-opening, but pedestrians will have to pay for it.

That appears to be the conclusion of Millennium Bridge Trust chairman David Bell, who said: "We need to have people in place to slow the flow down and that brings with it the problem of finding more money. We could have temporary charges of around UKP1."

Bell's plan is for the bridge, which closed just days after its grand opening last month due to excessive wobbling, to be used before major engineering work starts to permanently correct its flaws. To stop the infamous swaying, numbers would be restricted, hence the need for bouncers and the call for a charge to fund them.

"We have to be sure that the numbers going on to the bridge are restricted," Bell said.
