Dobson "Messed Up" in Mayor Battle
- Blair favourite stares at poll defeat

FRANK DOBSON appears to be close to admitting defeat in the race to become Labour's candidate for the London Mayor elections.

The favourite of Prime Minister Tony Blair said the campaign had been "messed up from start to finish" and could only cling to secret polls which he said put him neck and neck with left wing rival Ken Livingstone.

Blair did his bit for the cause yesterday by furiously trying to portray Dobson as his own man, rather than the party poodle of popular imagination. But Blair's message that the ex-Health Secretary was "an unspun, unspoilt politician," was somewhat undercut when Dobson turned up in suit and shirt of identical hue to his former boss.
