London Costs More
- Capital confirmed as most expensive in EU

LONDONERS may already have suspected as much, but new evidence consolidates their city as the most expensive in the European Union.

This latest report, published yesterday by The Economist Intelligence Unit, follows on from other recent studies which show how the city is moving up the world's cost league. Two key factors are fuelling the city's escalating comparative costs. First the strong pound. Second - at almost seven and a half years- the longest continuous period of economic growth in the UK's history.

London is not the only UK city to be riding high in the world costs league. Manchester, which ranked twentieth in the world, was higher placed than any German city for the first time. London, in seventh place, trailed Japanese cities Tokyo and Osaka, Hong Kong (China), Libreville (Gabon), Oslo (Norway) and Zurich (Switzerland).
