Queen of Heart Operations
- Diana paid for life-saving surgery in secret

PRINCESS DIANA, who dubbed herself 'the Queen of Hearts', secretly spent her own money on flying sick children into Britain for life-saving operations, it has emerged.

Diana was patron of the Chain of Hope charity which organises heart ops for poor children in parts of the world where up to the minute medical technology is often not available.

"She sponsored some of the children herself," said the charity's boss, heart surgeon Sir Magdi Yacoub. "But she would never let us admit it. She asked us to keep quiet and, of course, we did."

Sir Magdi's charity has saved the lives of 150 children but faces an uncertain future as it is not among the organisations being handed money from the Diana Memorial Fund.
