Pinochet 'Mentally Defective'
- Dictator's medical report too sensitive for release, say lawyers

LAWYERS representing General Pinochet have said that the report into his health should not be made public because it tags the Chilean torturer as "mentally defective".

The contents of the mystery report were enough to persuade British Home Secretary Jack Straw that he should release Pinochet on health grounds but so far public access has been denied for confidentiality reasons. "The medical reports in question contain highly sensitive personal information about Senator Pinochet," the General's lawyers said.

Lawyers representing Belgium and human rights groups are today attempting to win access to the report but most legal experts expect High Court judges to stick by an earlier ruling to let the files remain closed, a decision which could see Pinochet back in Chile within a week, raving lunatic or not.
