From Mean Streets to Docklands
- De Niro buys London riverside flat

ROBERT DE NIRO, star of Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, current hit Flawless and soon-to-be-released Meet the Parents, is to become the latest Hollywood star to move to London after buying a penthouse suite in Docklands.

The legendary actor, more usually associated with New York City, bought the UKP3.3 million flat at Canary Riverside from World Heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis and is expected to move in next March when filming starts on About a Boy, a movie based on Nick Hornby's novel.

A phalanx of American stars have come to London in recent years, many, such as Catherine Turner and Darryl Hannah, to appear on the West End stage, although the biggest catch so far has undoubtedly been Madonna.

Until De Niro's move, most glamigrants have bedded down in more traditionally fashionable neighbourhoods such as Chelsea and Hampstead, though Dockland's cache is on an upward curve as evidenced by the area's already existing star-inhabitants such as Sir Ian McKellen, Steven Berkoff and Delia Smith.

There would appear to be only snag with De Niro's arrival. About a Boy, which De Niro is to produce, stars Hugh Grant.
