|Crowds Line Up for Queen Mum
- Flag-waving fans get ready to cheer ton-up royal
ORGANISERS of the birthday tribute to the Queen Mother breathed a sigh of relief when thousands of well-wishers eventually turned up outside Buckingham Palace to offer their 100th birthday congratulations.
Earlier on only a few dozen well-wishers were to be found camping at the royal gates but by mid-morning, The Mall was lined three-deep with flag-waving celebrants, jockeying for position in readiness for the main festivities which kick off at noon. That's when the lady herself - Ma'am to you and me - will appear on a Buckingham Palace balcony to the certain delight of all those who have made the trip to greet her.
Army guns will fire out a 41 gun salute at around the same time in congratulation to a woman who won the affection of her compatriots during World War Two when she braved the Blitz along with millions of other Londoners.
Police are on their guard for trouble as anti-monarchists are planning a stunt to protest against the royal family.
