Tories and Labour in Dock Over Bigotry
- LibDem Hughes attacks 'appalling' stance of big two

BERMONDSEY MP Simon Hughes is to report both major UK political parties to the Commission for Racial Equality over their bigoted stance on immigration.

"The language they have used is appalling," Hughes said. "There is a concern that the struggle by the Conservatives and Labour to be as tough on immigration is motivated by short term political advantage. We pander to hostility to immigrants at our peril."

Liberal Democrat Hughes' intervention has failed to stop the latest vicious twist in the increasingly sordid battle between the two big parties for the anti-immigrant vote.

Home Office Minister Barbara Roach revealed plans for more prison-like detention centres for asylum seekers. "You can't be woolly about this. We need more," she said before issuing a chilling message to those refugees who have the temerity to complain about incarceration. "There's an easy way out of these places. You just go to the airport," Roach said.
