In Short:
Damsels in distress en masse.

In Full:
Alan Ayckbourn has penned a trilogy of three related plays. Game Plan, Flat Spin and Roleplay transfer from the Stephen Joseph theatre in Scarborough, and prove that the playwright is nothing if not ambitious.

True to their title, the three plays look at women in potentially compromising positions. Game Plan concerns a single parent under financial pressure whose daughter's efforts to help wreak havoc. Flat Spin looks at a date that goes horribly wrong as a stranger lures a girl back to his flat. And Roleplay turns a celebratory dinner into pure chaos as parents-in-law-to-be encounter an unexpected guest.

But the plays work as self sufficient pieces of entertainment. They are performed by the same company of actors on the same set and and boast Ayckbourn's trademark economy of wit and style. Like Tom Stoppard's current trilogy, the historical Coast of Utopia, Ayckbourn's three plays can be seen in one marathon sitting on Saturday or on their own during the week. Ayckbourn's threesome, however, promise more modern drama.
