PDC: Marshall, as one of
the founding fathers of House you must have been pretty proud
when the music took over the world in the last decade or so?
MJ: Well yes thank you, now you come to mention it I am.
|
|
PDC: Are the best times now over
for House though?
MJ: Well I was around at the birth of the whole thing and that's
pretty hard to top. But that doesn't mean the best times are over,
it just means its gonna' take a very innovative period or person
to change things again and give that feeling back of being part
of something new.
PDC: So what are the most exciting
developments in House today?
MJ: The technical revolution in computers means making music is
pretty much open to anyone. As in all things the more people doin'
something the higher the quality at the top will be.
PDC: How has London impacted
the House music scene?
MJ: It made it more commercially viable and brought major investors
into what was originally a small social scene.
PDC: Did you have a hard time
choosing which tracks would feature on your new compilation CD Move
Your Body?
MJ: Yeah there are so many classics that influenced me that it's
hard to make them fit into such a small list.
PDC: What particular themes of
your music were you looking to include and why?
MJ: Some tracks I put in because they were tracks I knew were hard
to get but that I wanted people to hear and some were plain out
and out influential songs on my career that I just wanted to pay
tribute to.
PDC: How long have you been based
in London?
MJ: Well I have a house in Chicago and one in London. I have had
the place in london about 8 years though to answer your question.
I move between the two.
PDC: How do the clubs in London
such as MN2S compare to clubs in America and Europe?
MJ: It's too hard to compare them as there are good clubs are all
over the world. London is great though; very diverse.
PDC: What's you favourite record
shop in town?
MJ: Black market
PDC: When you're not DJing what
do you do for fun in London?
MJ: Play video games
PDC: If you were Mayor of London
which single step would you take to improve the capital?
MJ: Build a new road system from scratch!!!!!!!!!
