FinancingMoney, money money is what makes a good Olympics, and believe you me, London 2012 knows this.
Money from where?
The London Organising Committee of the Games (LOCOG) estimates the operational budget to be at UKP 1.5 billion. The finances will come from public monies and private donations:
- UKP560m funded directly from the IOC (raised through the TOP sponsor programme and the sale of TV rights)
- UKP450m will be raised through local sponsorship and official suppliers
- UKP300m will come from ticket revenues
- UKP60m from licensing
Money for what?
Although the LOCOG doesn't fund the capital costs of venues, they estimate that:- UKP560m will be invested in the Olympic Stadium, the Aquatic Centre, the Velodrome and other sports arenas in Olympic Park.
- UKP130m will be spent on constructing the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) and the Main Press Centre (MPC) (both funded by a dual-package between the UK Government and the Mayor of London)
