Ditch Attempt To Save Dome
- Boss
Pierre Yves Gerbeau teams up with superclub Ministry of Sound
DOME chief
Pierre Yves Gerbeau is launching a last-minute attempt to keep
the Greenwich attraction as a place of entertainment.
Gerbeau, who
hopes to thwart the UKP125 million bid by Legacy, which aims
to transform the area into a business park, has a fortnight to
secure backing. The next two weeks will be crucial,
he said. If it doesnt go my way by then, the Dome
will be dismantled and we will not be interested any more.
One-time Disney
boss Gerbeau joined forces with Ministry Of Sound nightclub head
honcho James Palumbo for the bid. If their bid fails, Legacy
Plc, who became the favourites to take over the site after Japanese
bankers Nomura dropped out, look set to sign a deal before the
end of February.
The site was
home to Eighteen thousand clubbers who turned out in force on
New Years Eve for the Ministry of Sound party, held outside
the Dome.

Dome Heist Foiled
- Robbers
wanted diamonds, say onlookers
GUNSHOTS flashed
through the air at the Dome today as a gang of would-be jewel
thieves tried to bulldoze their way into the Millennium attraction.
Police intercepted
the raid at around 9.00am this morning and witnesses say they
heard several shots ring out before arrests were eventually made.
Reports suggest the robbers used a bulldozer as part of their
heist, but were foiled via a tip-off.
It is thought
the robbers were keen to get their hands on diamonds exhibited
at the Dome by De Beers, including the Millennium Star, reckoned
to be one of the most valuable diamonds in the world.
