We Say: Octave is stylish and dark, with brick and deep-red walls adorned with large black-and-white pictures of the jazz greats. The dimly lit setting is fitting with the sexy, piano-based jazz; one half expects cigar smoke to come wafting over from a neighboring table.
Make sure to look around at your neighbors' orders for some cocktail inspiration – the options are numerous and the drinks look amazing and taste even better. Hats off to Octave's personal mixologist – the cucumber cooler is fabulous and intensely refreshing. House cocktails start at UKP6, with a champagne-based drink costing around UKP9. The desserts are impressive as well, making this an ideal venue for some post-dinner jazz, drinks and dessert.
The restaurant would make for a date or even a fancy night out with friends, and is perfect for anyone who's willing to pay a little more for great jazz. This particular night featured great piano-based tunes, including favorites from Frank Sinatra and Cole Porter, and even a sexy reworking of the mega-classic Old McDonald.
Don't pass up the chance to catch one of the impressive jazz acts that come through Octave to save the UKP5 live-music cover charge. The fiver is well worth replacing the recorded music with a live band, and it's the music that pushes Octave over the edge from a classy-but-overpriced restaurant/bar to a sleek jazz club with some of the best live music in London.
