Description: A Local Authority in North London seeks a Principal Communications officer for a contract role.
The successful candidate will have the following attributes and experience:
A proven track record of developing and implementing successful internal and external communication strategies in large complex organisations.
Substantial and demonstrable understanding and experience of internal and external communication techniques, practices and current thinking.
Experience of handling communications with the media in relation to a crisis.
Experience of developing and delivering multi-media public relations campaigns using a full range of techniques.
To have direct responsibility for providing communications support to a portfolio of One Council projects, including providing professional advice and support to lead members and chief officers.
To agree the input of the Communications Team to all One Council projects with the Communication Manager.
To work closely with the One Council Programme management office to ensure there are consistent communications across projects within the One Council Programme and that communication plans support the changes envisaged by the One Council Programme.
To assist on policy development as directed by the Communication Manager and/or Head of Service
To represent and act on behalf of the Communication Manager at meetings and events as appropriate, and act as a spokesperson on behalf of the council when required.
To run innovative, multi-media PR campaigns which are effective and demonstrate value for money. To manage other staff, including freelance photographers and writers as and when required.
To manage the reputation of the council through local, regional, national and specialist and broadcast media, including dealing with media inquiries, writing news releases, issuing statements and placing features.
To plan and implement events, campaigns, publicity initiatives and other promotional opportunities as and when required.
To work with the web content manager to ensure customers, partners and other stakeholders can obtain up-to-date information and access services via the web.
To contribute to the development of the communication team in a way that is consistent with and adds value to the councils corporate strategy.
To provide an out of hour media relations service and attend evening meetings as and when required on a rota basis.
To undertake any other duties of a nature appropriate to the post as may be required from time to time.
