In a quiet 1970s Northumbrian village, teenage artist Mark yearns to leave the backwater. He falls madly in love with the new girl from London and together they plan to escape for the bright lights of the city. However, he becomes embroiled in the rioting of the strike and as Mark is forced to take sides in the bitter dispute, he risks betraying his family and friends.
