Eight-year-old Chuyia is married to a man she has never met. When her husband dies, poor Chuyia is condemned to live in an ashram as an outcast, as dictated by Hindu law, where the youngster witnesses beautiful widow Kalyani being forced into prostitution. When Kalyani falls in love with handsome law student Narayan, she faces a terrifying choice between her own happiness and the safety of the other women.
