Dr Will Caster is one of the pioneers in the field of artificial intelligence research and he strives to create a machine with sentience, aided by his wife and a fellow academic Evelyn and best friend Max Waters. Violent extremists, who oppose technological advancement, target Will and they shoot him with radioactive bullets. As his body fails, Will takes the bold decision to upload his mind to the digital realm in the hope that he can continue his groundbreaking work from beyond the grave.
