Gelsomina is the eldest of four daughters, who help their taciturn father harvest honey from nearby hives and sell the golden nectar in jars to the local community. As summer beckons, life on the farm is thrown into disarray by the arrival of a 14-year-old German boy called Martin, who will work alongside the family as part of a youth rehabilitation program. There is a palpable attraction between Martin and Gelsomina, that threatens to distract her from her responsibilities.
