In the aftermath of the Second World War, the residents of a remote Scottish island turn to local priest Balor McNeal to lead them towards the light of self-healing. He vociferously delivers sermons and behind closed doors, terrorises his outcast wife Aislin. As tensions grow between husband and wife, Mr Smith from Glasgow arrives with a teenage sinner in tow: Fionn. Balor agrees to provide Fionn with spiritual guidance so the young man can repent his sins.
