Journalist David Locke has become disillusioned with life, and with his potentially dangerous work covering current affairs in Africa. When a friend turns up dead in a Saharan hotel room, David impulsively decides to take on the identity of the deceased, stealing his passport and diary for a life-changing odyssey around Europe, including a fleeting romance with a girl.
