Raquel has been a maid for Pilar and her wealthy family in Santiago, Chile, for the past 20 years. She cuts a sad, lonely figure in the household but Raquel is part of the furniture and well liked by most of the family, except for the oldest daughter. Pilar wants Raquel to take life a little easier so she decides to hire an assistant maid to take on some of the daily chores. Unfortunately, Raquel doesn't react favourably to having an interloper in her domain.
