Political activist Aung San Suu Kyi marries husband Michael Aris in 1972 and together they raise two sons, Alexander and Kim, before she returns to her beloved Burma to spearhead the pro-democracy movement. After 1995, the Burmese government denies Michael entry visas so Suu Kyi is forced to live apart from her husband and children, and cannot be with Michael when he is diagnosed with terminal cancer.
