The King Of Kong - A Fistful Of Quarters (PG)

Genre: Documentary
Director: Seth Gordon
Running Time: 83mins
Country: US
Year: 2007

Documentary about the power of computer and video games to bring out the competitive spirit in normally placid men. In particular, Gordon’s film focuses on early ’80s classic Donkey Kong and record-breaker Billy Mitchell, who was splashed across Time magazine after racking up a score of 874,300 points for the game in 1982, when gaming was still in its infancy. The record stood for more than 20 years after schoolteacher Steve Wiebe finally broke the magic 1 million point barrier, only to have his claim dismissed by Mitchell and gaming authority Twin Galaxies. The King Of Kong meets both men and the controversy which continues to rage to this very day.
