The First Film + Q&A (PG)

Auguste and Louis Lumiere are often credited as the pioneers of cinema for their snapshots of everyday Parisian life. This documentary captures one man’s 33-year quest to prove that a Frenchman called Louis Le Prince merits the accolade. According to a blue plaque on a building, which overlooks Leeds Bridge: “Louis Amie August Le Prince came to Leeds in 1866 where he experimented in cinematography. In 1888 he patented a one-lens camera with which he filmed Leeds Bridge from this British Waterways building. These were probably the world’s first successful moving pictures.”
