Eighteen-year-old Sonita is a refugee from Afghanistan, who lives with other teenage girls in a shelter in Tehran. She dreams of becoming a famous rapper, who can change attitudes with her lyrical rhymes in a country that forbids women from singing. This documentary charts Sonita's personal odyssey as the teenager criticises forced marriages through her music, making a rap video that vociferously advocates greater freedom for young women in Iran.
