Jake attends love addiction meetings because he is unable to commit to any of his partners. At one of these meetings he crosses paths with Lainey, with whom he lost his virginity 12 years earlier when they were both at college. It transpires that Lainey is still obsessed with her teaching assistant from college. Jake becomes a shoulder for Lainey to cry on and they become good friends, deflating the obvious sexual tension between them with a bizarre code word: mousetrap.
