Australian-born British author PL Travers has fallen on hard times yet refuses to entertain the advances of Walt Disney, who wants to purchase the film rights to her book Mary Poppins. Eventually, Travers flies to America to meet Disney and his team including screenwriter Don DaGradi, and songwriters Richard and Robert Sherman, whose twee songs fail to curry favour with the writer.
