Daniel is estranged from his bullying father Leonard and long-suffering mother Maria, who live in Cumbria. When Leonard becomes too great a burden on Maria, Daniel reluctantly returns home to lend a hand and he struggles to reconnect to his parents. Rats run rampant in the house and Leonard continues to strike out at the people he supposedly loves. Daniel considers escaping again but his guilt is overwhelming and he soldiers on, bearing witness to bruising battles inside his childhood home.
