Thirteen-year-old Jill is weighed down with the responsibility of taking care of her younger brother Bo when she should be enjoying her childhood. Her parents' marriage has imploded. While her father Nils has moved out, the children's mother, celebrated artist Astrid, has sought refuge in alcohol. Her violent mood swings pose a risk to both Jill and Bo, who feel trapped inside their home, unable to ask for help.
