In 2004, a talented yet unknown painter called Marla Olmstead from Binghamton, New York, became a media sensation with her bold and colourful canvasses – a sensation, because Marla was only four-years-old. In a sensational twist, the CBS News programme 60 Minutes II aired a segment which claimed that Marla’s paintings were not all her own work, intimating that her father Mark had a hand (literally or figuratively) in their creation. This documentary follows the Olsmteads throughout this upsetting period, meeting the prodigious painter and her family, examining the hype and speculation that now surrounds the little girl.
