Ann Darrow is an out-of-work actress in Depression era America, whose luck seems to change for the better when she meets showman and raconteur Carl Denham. She joins Carl on an expedition to a mysterious island where they stumble upon a lost world, and a giant gorilla that takes an immediate shine to the wannabe starlet. Sensing the opportunity for a huge money-making venture, Carl transports the gargantuan animal back to New York City as a tourist attraction, but the animal soon breaks free of its constraints and goes on the rampage in the metropolis.
