A documentary about the forgotten roots of rap, executive produced by Public Enemy’s Chuck D, which illuminates the life and times of Jalal Mansur Nuriddin of The Last Poets and his seminal album Hustlers Convention. Fab Five Freddy, Melle Mel and other luminaries can still recite the album word-for-word, highlighting the enduring influence of a record which gave the streets a voice. The film juxtaposes archive footage with blaxploitation films of the era plus animation sequences.
